I know what you mean. I'll admit to choosing 2, though That was more down to being overly honest.

I mean, if I'm perfectly blunt? Of COURSE I want more information! I'm a human being, and therefore impatient! But that doesn't mean I don't appreciate the reasons why it isn't forthcoming this very second. If the wording had been changed from 'might have a reason' to 'does have its reasons' it would have been more appropriate, but still.

I'm starting to give up hope. I remember how excited I was, when I first saw the announcements/tiny infos about GW2. After 2 years it's quite sad, that we have not seen any pictures/videos/infos about the game yet. If they won't show anything at GamesCom or PAX, I'll turn away from GW and wait for SW:ToR, even if I must pay a monthly fee. At least it looks pretty good, and they are handling the informations pretty well too.

On topic, I was thinking about #2, but eventually I chose #1.

Looks more like Ascalonian/Vanguard armor than Charr.

Like the other poster said, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice and shame on me.

I don't need to go over everything Anet has said over the years that didn't come to be, but last year Gaile's thing was specific to GW2 and she made a very clear and bold statement. You can say it was because they changed their minds, FINE, but don't tell me they will definitely not do the same thing again.

As to your earlier post about GW2 being a 3D D3 or along those lines...you don't know anything other about general info about GW2, or how any of the general ideas will actually be implemented. You can't call GW2 anything except a handful of general ideas without knowing how they're implemented.

Hawk pretty much summed it up

But you have a point about other things in GW1 that haven't come to pass, and nearly EVERY one of the things they/we wanted adding they mention as part of the reason for scrapping GW1 and starting GW2... The gW1 engine had to many limitations and making those changes would have broken the game (Hell look at the XTH)

Look, just accept that GW2 will have most of the things the community has asked for like an auction house (I know Inde, its not conformed, but I'm taking GW2 coming as the confirmation :P ) and other things

No, Gaile was never vague and that was her downfall. She was entirely specific about what would come out about GW2 in 2008, and now we are able to point to every single one and say it didn't happen.

I wish people would stop saying things like everyone wanted a higher level cap, an auction house, races, and the ability to pointlessly jump. GW1 did not have these things for the reasons that it was not designed to be THAT type of game, and many people I believe picked up/loved GW for the novelty that it did not in fact have these things, instead relying on a straight and simple skill-based play.

It would be fair to say they're intending to make a better game (whether they do or not still remains to be seen) but don't assume that a higher level cap, an auction house, and the ability to jump will make GW2 more fun or a "better" game than GW1. The reason it is troubling that they are doing all of this, is because many saw GW1 as "revolutionary" and by adding these things, its as if Anet is taking steps backwards towards WoW.

Maybe you should just relax on the posting for awhile, until after PAX. If they still don't show us anything after PAX, you'll have an argument, but until then just give it a break already.

I won't blame Anet for wanting their game to be prettier in terms of a Z-axis, multiple races, etc. While it may be a step away from what their original game was like, it's fine as long as it's not another WoW wannabe. As long as GW2 won't have the "kill X amount of enemies" or "collect Y amount of items" or "deliver this item to the guy right next to you" type of "quests" (if you can even call them that), I'll be happy. That was the sole reason I stopped enjoying WoW after the first 10 levels.

But OT, while I can't say that Gaile was the best, I don't like Regina and Martin's vague answers that don't answer anything at all. In the end, I find that Mike O'Brien (in his recent Wiki entry) and Linsey gives much better/more accurate information, and that's saying something.

Exactly the same reason here.. that kind of gameplay just never caught me. and I'm not patient enough to play for 200 hours to get a lvl 80 character or wtf it is by now..

If GW2 has "Kill X" and "Bring X to Y" I'll instantly drop the game and never turn back.

Correct me if I am wrong, but pretty much any game in the vein of Guild Wars is going to have at least SOME of that... there has to be small "fetch" and "kill" quests to help get you going. If the entire experience is completely "EPIC", then epic would get boring... in my humble opinion.

Sure GW has a few of those, but they are very few and far in between. But almost all other MMO's, WoW included, are all about the "kill X, collect Y" kind of grinding over and over again. It's like, why am I even doing this? Don't I have some more epic stuff to do as a main character other than being everybody's errand boy? I don't understand how people can withstand that kind of pointless, repetitive, and boring gameplay.

Hmm, I've been playing GW for 4 years and almost every quest is collecting or killing X number of certain beasties. WoW is HORRENDOUS for this. At least in GW, the errands feel like they're paying off. Now, perhaps you were talking about quests and missions combined? Missions are interesting and fun... but I can't think of any quest that wasn't either collecting something, "go speak to X person" (in another town), kill X beast/s... heck, all of that is grinding in my book. I suppose what a person considers "grinding" may be largely a matter of opinion?

check some eotn quests, like the drinking one, or the rabid bear one, they are awesome and not grind at all, I'd say give us less quests and opportunity to find the better ones by not hiding them among repetitive "kill x collect y bring this to z"

I made the leap and moved on to Aion. Wasn't going to do it, but GW will be dead to me as of September (maybe).

Well, you can preorder Aion, get the 40 some days of playtime + all closed and open betas and then decide. If GW2 comes out this year (very unlikely) you can still continue playing it.

No need to choose.

i don't remember gw's quests to be all about killing and gathering. however, the mix between missions and quests create a well-balanced pve experience and the max level is reached very quickly. hence, you don't have to quest if you don't want to, which gives the quest writers more freedom to actually tell side stories.

in fact, that's one of the reasons i had so much fun playing gw, also that's the reason gw is in some way far superior to other orpgs. (*wishes gw2 will be the same*)

i hope to tickle some "hidden" information out of martin. if i learn more, you'll be the first to know.

Yes, GW1 has those quests, but they are hidden with good storyline and missions. MMOs that JUST focus Kill X/FedEx fail (or about every MMO out there).

Apparently, a lot of players DO like those quests, e.g. Nicholas the Traveler.

Here's an interesting take on the topic from Gamasutra.

In particular, these quotes:

Quote:
"While I see a lot of year-long campaigns for blockbuster games, casual games typically have shorter campaigns. We often announce games six or eight months before release, but sometimes it can be less than that."
- Jeremy Zoss, Communications Manager for Destineer
Quote:
"With a AAA title developed by a well-known studio you want to start building anticipation early, which is why you see a lot of big games being announced sometimes more than a year in advance at E3."
- Sheila Bryson, Director of Spark PR
It definately seems like GW2 was announced far too early, but you can't blame them for not starting to market the game yet.
